Uğur Mumcu Investigative Journalism Foundation (Um:ag) was established in memory of journalist and writer Uğur Mumcu, who was assassinated on January 24, 1993.[1] This foundation aims to teach Uğur Mumcu's journalism style to young journalists; It aims to give importance to art and life with its activities in all fields of art such as literature, philosophy, painting and cinema.[2] It also prints and distributes Uğur Mumcu's writings and works (in Turkish).[3] The Foundation was deemed worthy of the Sertel Democracy Award in 2003.[4]
Establishment and purpose[edit]
Founded by his wife Güldal Mumcu and his children Özgür Mumcu and Özge Mumcu, the foundation aims to enable future generations to know Uğur Mumcu and to raise young journalists in his way of his thinking. The foundation's work started in October 1994, in the house on Uğur Mumcu street, where Uğur Mumcu himself was assassinated .
The board of directors consists of his wife Güldal Mumcu and his children Özgür and Özge.[5] The foundation is currently located at Paris Street No:14, Turkey.
The foundation currently has the status of a public benefit foundation.[6]
