Mxolisi Mhlongo (born in Mhlabuyalingana, KwaZulu-Natal), professionally known as Mdumazi, is a South African musician, composer, songwriter, and guitarist. He is known for his contributions to the Maskandi genre, a traditional Zulu music style.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Mdumazi was born and raised in Mhlabuyalingana, a rural area in northern KwaZulu-Natal. He grew up with his father and four siblings, and developed a passion for Maskandi music at an early age. He attended Mthidlwe Primary School and later completed his high school education at Nkosana High School, matriculating in 2011.
Music Career
[edit]Mdumazi began his music career in 2011 with the release of his debut album in the Maskandi genre. His talent was recognized in 2015 when he won the Best Newcomer Award at the Amantshontsho Awards. Since his debut, Mdumazi has released six albums, which include popular tracks such as "Ontaba Kayikhonjwa," "Ngizolala Ngiduma," "Ejele eShowe," "Uyahamba Themba Lami," "I-Diary Yami," and "Ngibuzwile Ubuhlungu."
His song "Ngizolala Ngiduma" gained significant popularity, achieving nearly 5,000 streams on digital platforms. Mdumazi's music is celebrated for its authentic representation of Zulu traditions and has been featured on various radio stations. He is known for his energetic live performances and strong connection with his audience.
Musical Style and Influence
