Ulaar Surya Mandir According to mythological tales, during the Dwapara Yuga, Bhagwan Shri Krishna's son Shambh contracted leprosy due to a curse from the sages. Later, upon the advice of the gods, he bathed in the Ular Lake and worshipped the sun for one and a quarter months, which freed him from the disease.

According to the legend, one morning, while Shambh, the son of Lord Shri Krishna, was bathing, he caught the attention of the sage Ganga Charan. Seeing this, the sage became angry and cursed Shambh with leprosy. After that, the divine sage Narada advised him to establish sun temples at 12 locations to seek liberation from the curse. Following this advice, Shambh built sun temples at twelve places including Ularak, Lolark, Aungarak, Devark, and Kornak. Only then was he freed from the curse.

Historians tell us that later, Muslim rulers destroyed the Ular Surya Temple like other temples. Then, between 1950 and 1954, with public support, Saint Alabela Baba undertook the restoration of the temple. Every Sunday, a considerable number of people afflicted with leprosy bathe here and offer water and milk to the sun. Whether it's during the month of Chaitra or Kartik, on both Chhath festivals, crowds of thousands gather here. It is said that those who worship the childless Sun with sincere devotion here are blessed with offspring.
