Umesh Prasad Thani (Nepali: उमेश प्रसाद थानी) served as the Managing Director of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC),[1] Leading one of Nepal's key sectors and overseeing the management and distribution of oil resources within the country.

Early life and education[edit]

Mr. Thani was born in Birendranagar Municipality of Surkhet District in the Mid-Western Development region of Nepal. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Pulchowk Engineering Campus, Tribhuvan University, in 2003. Furthering his academic pursuits, Thani obtained a Master's degree in Water Resources Engineering from the same institution in 2013. Additionally, he earned an MA in Sociology from Trichandra Campus, Tribhuvan University, in 2007, and an LLB from Nepal Law Campus, Tribhuvan University, in 2017.

Thani's professional journey includes various leadership roles and contributions:

  • Managing Director of Nepal Oil Corporation: Thani served as the Managing Director of Nepal Oil Corporation, where he was responsible for managing and distributing oil resources within the country.
  • President of Center for Democratic Engineers Nepal (CDEN) (Elected): From December 2020 to June 2023, Thani served as the President of CDEN, focusing on promoting democratic practices within the engineering community.[2]
  • Principal of Everest Engineering College: Thani held the position of Principal from June 2019 to July 2021, affiliated with Pokhara University, contributing significantly to shaping the academic landscape of the institution.[3]
  • Board Member of Nepal Electricity Authority: Appointed by the Government of Nepal, Thani served as a Board Member from December 2016 to 2019, showcasing his expertise in energy infrastructure and governance.[4]
