VOLTA is a multidisciplinary optimization platform developed by ESTECO, an engineering software company based in Italy. The software is designed to facilitate design space exploration, optimization, and simulation data management for several industries, including but not limited to aerospace, automotive, and energy.

VOLTA allows companies to scale up the usage of simulation models and design exploration and optimization techniques across teams and different organizations. The software has tools and features that enable engineering teams to collaborate, manage data, and integrate optimization into their product development processes. It helps engineers conduct complex simulations, create optimization workflows, manage large amounts of data, and achieve better performance results.

History (2016 -)[edit]

VOLTA was introduced by ESTECO in 2016 as a response to the growing demand for a comprehensive and collaborative data management platform that could streamline engineering workflows.[1] It was created to complement ESTECO's flagship product, modeFRONTIER, and to address the specific challenges faced by companies in managing large amounts of engineering data.[2] Since its initial release, the software has undergone continuous development and refinement.[3][4][5][6][7]

In 2017, Lockheed Martin selected VOLTA to advance MDO technologies as part of the EXPEDITE Program.[8]

In 2018, during the 34th International CAE Conference, GASVESSEL organized a themed workshop focused on implementing and validating VOLTA and modeFRONTIER developed by ESTECO.[9]

In 2020, Otto Aviation chose VOLTA as its digital engineering framework for MDO and SPDM.[10]

Over the years, VOLTA has been featured in several research publications, journals and books.[11][12]

Features and Capabilities[edit]

VOLTA has a range of features and capabilities that allow engineers to explore the design space and optimize the performance of their products and processes.[13][14] Some of its key features include:

  • Simulation Data Management: The software facilitates simulation data management, allowing users to anticipate design changes and accelerate the innovation process. It helps ensure data integrity and traceability throughout the optimization process.
  • Design Exploration and Optimization: The platform allows users to explore and analyze the design space, helping them gain insights into the impact of different design parameters and performance variables and identify the most promising designs.
  • Collaboration: VOLTA’s collaboration features enable teams to work together on complex optimization projects and help foster effective communication and knowledge sharing.
  • Workflow Automation: VOLTA offers an interface to get a high-level view of a business process and run a simulation workflow automatically to perform design space exploration.
  • Data Visualization and Reporting: VOLTA provides data visualization tools that users can use to interpret and analyze optimization results. Users can generate detailed reports to share their findings and insights with stakeholders and make informed decisions.

Applications[edit]

VOLTA is used in a wide range of industries, including but not limited to automotive, aerospace, energy, and manufacturing. Engineering teams across these sectors use VOLTA to streamline their product development processes, improve collaboration, and optimize designs to meet performance goals.
