Vitesse X[edit]

Jordan Emma Stern (born December 3, 1991.[1]), known professionally as Vitesse X, is an American musician, producer, songwriter, DJ, audio engineer and co-founder of Music Website[2]. She released her debut album "Us Ephemeral," in 2022 on the label 100% Electronica and supported George Clanton and Magdalena Bay on a sold-out US Tour[3]. The title track "Us Ephemeral" quickly rose to prominence, making the #1 spot on VICE's 50 best songs of 2022 list[4]. She has been recognized by outlets like Pitchfork[5], Gorilla vs. Bear[6], DAZED[7] and was named one of Numéro Magazine’s 10 Female Electronic Producers and Singers to Watch[8]

Early Life[edit]

Stern was born in New Paltz, New York, on December 3, 1991, to Jon Stern, a science teacher[9], and Tomi Nonenmacher, a painter and art teacher[10]. As a kid she spent a lot of time in nature[11] and was active in competitive sports[12]. She discovered her love of music on long car rides traveling to her cross country skiing and track competitions. Stern attended college at James Madison University where she was a part of the local DIY music scene and played in punk and shoegaze bands.[11]

Career[edit]

2010-2020: Career beginnings[edit]

In 2012, Stern met Chris Burden while attending college at James Madison University and joined his shoegaze project Surfing. Stern and Burden relocated to Brooklyn, NY in the Summer of 2013. The group disbanded in August 10, 2014 after performing their final show at Glasslands Gallery with Sunflower Bean, Mirror Kisses and Teen Body.[13]

In 2015, Stern joined Heavenly Beat as a touring guitarist for a North American tour with Teen Daze.[14] Following the tour she then took a hiatus from performing music and worked as a studio engineer and live sound engineer. In 2020, she toured with indie rock band, Beach Fossils, as their FOH engineer. In March of 2020, when the pandemic struck, live music was put on pause[15] and during her free time she began writing and producing her own songs as Vitesse X.[16]

2021-Present[edit]

In 2021, Stern released singles "Repress Reprise,"[17] "Therma Maxima,"[18] "Potential Energy" and supported George Clanton and Magdalena Bay on a sold-out US tour. [19] On March 25, 2022, She released her debut album "Us Ephemeral" on 100% Electronica. [20]

On January 18, 2023, Stern shared the single "In The Balance"[21] and announced her new label she co-founded "Music Website" with music manager and partner Chris Burden[22][23]. On June 14, 2023, she released single "Ricochet"[24] and it was named one of Spotify editors' Top 100 Fresh Finds Dance Songs of 2023[25]. In October of 2023, she was named one of Numéro Magazine's 10 electronic producers to follow[26] and shared a collaboration with trance artist TDJ on single "Into Dream" for SPF INFINI 3.[27][28]

Artistry[edit]

Stern has cited Aphex Twin, Moby[11], My Bloody Valentine, Kraftwerk, Sade and Radiohead[11] as her influences. Her music has been described as indie pop, along with dream pop[11], cybercore[29], atmospheric drum & bass[30], and techno[20] with ethereal, introspective[22], nostalgic and meditative qualities[22][31].
