War 2 is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language action-thriller film directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. The sixth installment in the Spy Universe and sequel to War (2019), it stars Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani and N. T. Rama Rao Jr.

Announced in April 2023 under the title of War 2, principal photography commenced in October 2023 and has taken in place across Mumbai, Madrid, Abu Dhabi, Kashmir and Hyderabad. War 2 is scheduled to release on 14 August 2025 coinciding with the Indian Independence Day in IMAX and other premium formats.[1][2]

In April 2023, Yash Raj Films announced a sequel to the 2019 film War and sixth instalment in the shared universe titled War 2. Ayan Mukerji was roped into direct the film, replacing Siddharth Anand.[3][4][5] This would be Mukerji's first venture outside of Dharma Productions. Hrithik Roshan reprises his role while Telugu actor N. T. Rama Rao Jr was cast as the antagonist, making his debut in Hindi cinema.[6] In June 2023, Kiara Advani was cast as the female lead.[7][8] Apart from Roshan, Ashutosh Rana reprises his role from the prequel. In Tiger 3, Roshan reprised his role in a cameo appearance in the post-credits scene, indirectly teasing the film.[9] The post-credit scene was directed by Mukerji himself.[10]

Filming

Principal photography commenced in October 2023 in Madrid.[11][12] A second schedule was filmed in Abu Dhabi in December 2023.[13] Both schedules were filmed without the presence of the lead actors. In March 2024, Hrithik Roshan shot his introductory sequence in Mumbai. A set resembling a Shaolin Monastery was constructed for the sequence.[14][15] In April, Rao shot his introductory sequence as well as an aerial action sequence involving Roshan, orchestrated on a built aircraft exterior at a studio in Vile Parle.[16][17] In May, Roshan and Rao shot for a song choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant.[18] Filming resumed in August during which Advani began shooting for her portions.[19][20] Additional scenes were shot at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad that same month.[21][22][23] The climax has been planned to be shot in Kashmir over a 10 day schedule in December 2024.[24] Filming is expected to be wrapped in December 2024.[25]

War 2 is scheduled to release on 14 August 2025 coinciding with the Indian Independence Day.[1][2] The film will release in dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

Future

The seventh installment in the Spy Universe titled Alpha starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari will release after War 2 and will also feature Roshan as a mentor to Bhatt and Wagh.[27][28]
