Wenjun Kuai is the Mandarin teacher at Concord Academy, having started the program when she first came to the school in 2010.[1]
Early Life[edit]
Kuai was born and raised in Hefei, Anhui Province in China as an only child. As of 2023, she is 43 years old. In high school, she was often required to run for sport. She received a scar on her forehead from an accident while at school. On the gaokao, she scored particularly high.[citation needed]
Education[edit]
Despite hoping to attend college in America, Kuai ultimately chose to attend a school ten minutes from her home, Hefei University of Technology, which her parents were happy about. She received a degree in English and international trade, using her third year of college to prepare for graduate school in America.[2]
After immigrating to America with her husband Stephen, Kuai initially attended the University of Rhode Island in pursuit of a PhD in physics, but ultimately left the university to care for her newborn child. She had hoped to attend Boston University, but accidentally applied to Boston College, where she received her masters in education. Her dissertation focused on using national data to see how parental involvement with student performance at different levels affects performance.[citation needed]
Personal Life[edit]
Kuai splits time between her home at Concord Academy and her house near Moses Brown School in Rhode Island. She has two children, two turtles named Birdie and Eagle, and two cats named Panpan and Huahua. One of her turtles ran away following its tank flooding, although which turtle is unknown. Due to her deeply-rooted fear of birds, Kuai is often spooked by birds seen outside of the Mandarin classroom window.[citation needed]
