Western Airlines Flight 470 was a domestic scheduled passenger flight from Colorado to Wyoming.[1] On March 31, 1975, the Boeing 737-247 used on the flight crashed in Casper-Natrona County International Airport after the aircraft when further right and beyond the departure end of the runway when the aircraft missed approach due to excessive speed and height.[1]
Aircraft
[edit]The aircraft was a Boeing 737-247, registered N4527W, it was manufactured in 1969 and had 14076 hours in the air.[1] After the accident, the aircraft was written off.[1]
Cause
[edit]It was likely due to the pilot had failed to judge when he failed to execute a missed approach and kept a non-precision approach when landing without assessing the aircraft’s position to the runway’s threshold, the contributing factors to the crash were the height and speed causing the aircraft crossed the approach end of the runway including the failures of the two other flight crew not providing with the needed callouts.[1]
