Brandon University Black History Month Edit-A-Thon 2024

The Brandon University Music Library is hosting an in-person beginner-friendly Wikipedia workshop! We will be editing articles to improve representation of black composers and musicians on Wikipedia.

No Wikipedia editing experience necessary. We will be going over the basics of Wikipedia and how to edit articles.

All are welcome, and pizza will be provided!

Bring a laptop or other similar device to work on Wikipedia edits from.

Please create a Wikipedia Username before the event as only 6 usernames can be created at one IP address.

Who do we do it for? In engaging and working with locals, we can have a global impact and outreach to various communities in terms of understanding social justice issues. What is it? An edit-a-thon to improve Wikipedia articles on social justice Highlight the voices of marginalized and underrepresented communities.

Who Can Participate? We encourage the participation and we welcome people of all genders, backgrounds and identities. Everyone can participate; affiliation with an institution is not required All Wikipedia levels are welcome What Will We Learn? The importance of Wikipedia in raising awareness on social justice issues by using reliable and improved sources that are accessible to communities. Creating a Wikipedia account Adding citations to existing articles that require verification Editing Wikipedia pages that require more information and reliable resources Contribution ideas Below is a list of Wikipedia articles that need improvement : missing citations, lack of neutral view point, general lack of information, editing, updating, etc.
