Draft:Wolfstar

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolfstar is the ship of two characters, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, from the Harry Potter universe. It is the 2nd most popular Harry Potter ship on Archive of Our Own, with over 42,000 fanfiction works.[1] Wolfstar is a term popularly associated with the non-canonical romantic pairing between two characters from the Harry Potter series: Sirius Black and Remus Lupin. The name "Wolfstar" originates from the combination of Lupin's lycanthropy and Sirius's name, the star, Sirius. Emerging in the Harry Potter fandom around 2005, the term gained prominence due to the intriguing dynamics between these characters. [2]

Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, portrayed by Gary Oldman and David Thewlis in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, became focal points for fans exploring the possibility of a romantic relationship between the two. Notably, the actors themselves reportedly interpreted their characters as being in a relationship, infusing their performances with subtle nuances that fueled speculation within the fandom.

The popularity of the Wolfstar ship surged on platforms like Archive of Our Own, where it stands as the second most favored Harry Potter pairing, boasting over 42,000 fanfiction works. The main fanfiction of this ship is "All The Young Dudes" by MsKingBean89, which significantly expanded the Marauders fandom.

Despite lacking canonical support, fans have pointed to certain interactions and the chemistry between Sirius and Lupin in the Harry Potter series, as well as the actors' portrayals, as foundations for the Wolfstar ship. However, the ship remains a subject of contention within the broader Harry Potter community, particularly due to author J.K. Rowling's disapproval of this interpretation.
