@RobiH and Dege31: Let's see what we can do with this. The first thing that catches my eye is the sheer range. We have events with tens of millions dead, and events with as few as 40 dead, which does seem ridiculous. The first thing I would suggest is to set a lower limit of at least 100,000. I also note that there is a section for "regimes" which appears to address deaths over the length of a particular regime, which may be a disastrous period, but should not count as constituting a "disaster".
