Dear Alalch, this quote from Zolotas shows how the "di Negroponte" nickname started being used as a "Negroponte" proper surname from the early 17th century onwards. I also added a citation from the Libro D'oro by Argenti which offers the source for the first part of the paragraph discussing the existence of the Zaccaria-Cattaneo in the island before that time.
