Mackay road network

Mackay road network is a group of roads that provide access to the urban areas of Mackay in Queensland, Australia, and enable travel between the communities. Most of the roads retain their original road or street names, and are not well known by their official names.[1][2]

Roads in the network[edit]

In addition to the Bruce Highway, the Peak Downs Highway, and the Mackay Ring Road, the network[3] consists of the following state-controlled roads:

  • Glenella Connection Road
  • Mackay–Slade Point Road
  • Rockleigh–North Mackay Road
  • Maraju–Yakapari Road
  • Mackay–Bucasia Road
  • Mackay–Habana Road
  • Eimeo Road

A number of local roads that also link the localities are not included in this article.

Glenella Connection Road[edit]

Glenella Connection Road (Lagoon Street) is a state-controlled district road (number 530), rated as a local road of regional significance (LRRS).[1][2] It runs from the Bruce Highway in West Mackay to Glenella Road in Glenella, a distance of 3.9 kilometres (2.4 mi). It does not intersect with any state-controlled roads.[4]

Mackay–Slade Point Road[edit]

Mackay–Slade Point Road (Gordon Street, Sydney Street, Barnes Creek Road, Harbour Road) is a state-controlled district road (number 857), part of which is rated as a local road of regional significance (LRRS).[1][2] It runs from the Bruce Highway in West Mackay to Gannett Street in Slade Point, a distance of 11.8 kilometres (7.3 mi). It intersects with Rockleigh–North Mackay Road in North Mackay.[5]

Rockleigh–North Mackay Road (Sams Road, Joint Levee Road) is a state-controlled regional road (number 531), rated as a local road of regional significance (LRRS).[1][2] It runs from the Bruce Highway in Mount Pleasant to Mackay–Slade Point Road in North Mackay, a distance of 3.1 kilometres (1.9 mi). It does not intersect with any state-controlled roads.[6]

Maraju–Yakapari Road[edit]

Maraju–Yakapari Road (Heaths Road, Sugarshed Road) is a state-controlled district road (number 5302), rated as a local road of regional significance (LRRS).[1][2] It runs from the Bruce Highway in Mount Pleasant to the Bruce Highway in The Leap, a distance of 24.4 kilometres (15.2 mi). It intersects with Glenella Connection Road and Mackay Ring Road in Glenella.[7]

Mackay–Bucasia Road is a state-controlled regional road (number 856), rated as a local road of regional significance (LRRS).[1][2] It runs from the Bruce Highway in Mount Pleasant to Shoal Point Road in Bucasia, a distance of 9.8 kilometres (6.1 mi). It intersects with Mackay–Habana Road in Richmond and Eimeo Road in Rural View.[8]

Mackay–Habana Road is a state-controlled district road (number 8506), rated as a local road of regional significance (LRRS).[1][2] It runs from Mackay–Bucasia Road in Richmond to Yakapari–Habana Road in Habana, a distance of 11.3 kilometres (7.0 mi). It does not intersect with any state-controlled roads.[9]

Eimeo Road is a state-controlled district road (number 8565), rated as a local road of regional significance (LRRS).[1][2] It runs from Mackay–Bucasia Road in Rural View to Shepherd Road in Eimeo, a distance of 4.7 kilometres (2.9 mi). It does not intersect with any state-controlled roads.[10]
