Anthony Maggio was the composer of the famous "I Got the Blues" piece from 1908 which was seen a key inspiration that helped to create "the blues" as a recognized genre. This score might be a reworking of "I Got the Blues" and there's some speculation that Maggio wasn't directly involved in its creation but was credited anyway. Victor H. Smalley was a 32 year old composer whose composing career was showing signs of promise, but in December 1910 he passed away from acute appendicitis. He wrote several other rags including "Dat Lovin' Rag". This one was published by F.B. Haviland in New York City in 1910.
