eral specific programs of management improvements are under-way. The financial and tax analysis staffs will be further strengthened. Increased use of automatic data processing equipment by theTreasury is anticipated in the year ahead. An ADP system forclassifying and coding handwriting is under development which willenable the Secret Service to speed identification of forgers. In the Bureau of Customs, studies and projects aimed at facili-tating international trade and travel have been undertaken. Therecommendations of a Citizens Task Force, appointed to study thehandling of travelers baggage by Customs, are being considered. A study of the role and missions of the Coast Guard is also beingmade. In addition, a study of the Departments long-range planningactivities will begin shortly. This study will include determinationof the extent and scope of such activities, evaluation of their effective-ness, and identification of areas for improvement.
