Description
English: Portrait by Sir Joshua Reynolds of George Capel, Viscount Malden (1757–1839), and Lady Elizabeth Capel (1755–1834), the only children of William Anne Capel, fourth Earl of Essex, and his first wife, Frances. Viscount Malden became a Member of Parliament and later took the name Coningsby. He became fifth Earl of Essex in 1799 and lived at Cassiobury House, Watford. The portrait was sold with other Cassiobury estate assets in 1922-3 and now hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
