Filip Marschall (born 24 April 2003) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for EFL League Two club Crewe Alexandra, on loan from Premier League club Aston Villa.[2] Marschall is a product of the Cambridge City and Aston Villa academies and has represented England at U19 level.
Club career
[edit]Youth career
[edit]Marschall joined the Cambridge City academy as a child. Until he was 13, Marschall had never played in goal, playing as a defender.[3]
In January 2018, Marschall signed for EFL Championship club Aston Villa.[4] Marschall was a regular starting goalkeeper for Villa's youth teams. In 2021, Marschall was part of the Aston Villa team that won the FA Youth Cup. Later that season, he was awarded as Aston Villa's Premier League Scholar of the Year.[5]
Aston Villa
[edit]In July 2021, Marschall was given his first professional contract by Aston Villa.[6]
In January 2022, Marschall joined National League North club Gateshead on a six-month loan.[7] Marschall made 19 appearances for the club as they were crowned champions.[8] Upon returning from the loan, Marschall signed a contract extension with Villa.[9]
In January 2023, Marschall returned to Gateshead for another six-month loan.[10]
On 14 December 2023, Marschall made his Aston Villa first team debut in a UEFA Europa Conference League match away at Zrinjski Mostar.[11]
On 19 January 2024, Marshall joined League Two club Milton Keynes Dons on loan until the end of the season.[12] The following day, Marschall made his Football League debut in a 2–1 defeat to Morecambe.[13]
On 19 July 2024, Marschall joined League Two club Crewe Alexandra on a season-long loan.[14] He made his debut in the side's League Two opener away at Barrow.[15]
International career
[edit]Marschall is eligible for both the Polish and English national teams. He has featured twice for the England U19 side.[16] He was also called up to a Poland U19 training camp in 2021.[16]

[edit]Marschall was born in England to Polish parents. He speaks English, Polish, and Spanish - which he studied at A-level.[16]
