James Naish is a British Labour Party politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Rushcliffe since July 2024. A member of the Labour Party, he defeated Conservative incumbent Ruth Edwards.[2]

Early life[edit]

Naish was born in Sheffield and grew up on his family farm in South Wheatley.[3] He attended Queen Elizabeth's High School in Gainsborough.[4]

Political career[edit]

Naish was elected to Bassetlaw District Council in May 2019, representing the predominantly rural Sturton ward.[5] Naish was elected Leader of the council in September 2022.[6]

Naish was selected by the Labour Party as their parliamentary candidate for Rushcliffe in February 2024 and was elected in July 2024.[citation needed]

Personal life[edit]

Naish is the nephew of the former Downing Street Press Secretary for Tony Blair, Alastair Campbell.
