Janina Różycka-Klejnowska full name Janina Teresa Różycka-Klejnowska of the Rolicz coat of arms[1] (born 12 January 1947) is a Polish conservator of monuments, journalist, and iconographer. She is best known for co-founding the Silesian School of Iconography with her son, Dariusz Klejnowski-Różycki. He is a member of the fraternity of the international movement Communion and Liberation.
Early life and education
[edit]Janina Różycka-Klejnowska was born on 12 January 1947 in Jeżowe, Poland. She has a twin brother, Tadeusz Różycki, a journalist and photojournalist living in Paris[2] [3], and an older brother, Janusz, who has passed away in 1996. Her parents are Józef and Jadwiga Różyccy.
Her roots trace back to the Polish nobility from the Volhynia region and the territories of Lviv, where her ancestors left their estates, building the Polish Commonwealth. She studied conservation of monuments at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń[5] and economics at the University of Economics in Katowice[6].
Career
[edit]Janina worked extensively in Paris, where she was involved in the restoration of numerous art pieces. She is a member of a journalist association in Paris and was affiliated with Voix Anglaise and Teczka.
Silesian School of Iconography
[edit]In the year 2000, Janina co-founded the Silesian School of Iconography with her son, Dariusz Klejnowski-Różycki. The school has since become a public association of the faithful, influencing iconographers, creators of sacred art, and theologians of icons across the Katowice metropolis, including the dioceses of Gliwice, Opole, and the archdiocese of Katowice. The school engages in both scientific and didactic activities, as well as numerous publications[5][7]. Janina was the rector of the Silesian School of Iconography from 2002 to 2005 and currently serves as the vice-rector[8].
Personal life
[edit]Janina married Mariusz-Józef Klejnowski in 1971. He was an electronics engineer who passed away in 2006. They have one son, Dariusz Klejnowski-Różycki, who is a prominent theologian and rector of the Silesian School of Iconography. Her contributions to the field of art restoration and her role in establishing the Silesian School of Iconography have left a lasting legacy[5].
Works
[edit]Her artistic output includes creating numerous icons and writing several publications. Her icons have been commissioned for communities and churches in France, Africa, and Madagascar, as well as for private collections. From 1993 to 1998, she ran her own restoration atelier at 3 rue de Bretagne in Paris[9].
