Marin Jukic

Marin Jukić, PhD (born 18 January 1986 in Belgrade, Serbia) is an associate professor of physiology at the University of Belgrade, Serbia and senior scientist at the Karolinska Institute’s Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. His research focuses on brain development, monoaminergic neurotransmission, and the genetics, epidemiology, and clinical properties of bipolar disorder and major depression.

Early Life and Education

Marin Jukić earned his MSc degree (2010) in pharmacy from the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade, Serbia. He completed his PhD (2014) at the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology, Faculty of Medicine, Ben Gurion University, Israel.[1]

Career

Dr. Marin Jukić began his academic career as a teaching assistant for histology at the Faculty of Medicine, Ben Gurion University, Israel, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, where he taught pharmacology from 2015 to 2017.

Research Focus

Dr. Jukić's research is primarily focused on brain development, monoaminergic neurotransmission, and the genetics, epidemiology, and clinical properties of bipolar disorder and major depression.

Professional Roles and Contributions

Marin Jukić is actively involved in the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP), serving as a councilor on its Executive Committee from 2022 to 2025.[2] He has also served as the chair of the ECNP Junior Member Advisory Panel (2016-19), member of the program committee of the ECNP Workshop on Applied Neuroscience (2015-19), and member of the Scientific Program Committee of the 32nd ECNP Congress 2019.

Dr. Jukić is recognized for his editorial contributions as a member of the editorial board and associate editor of Drug Metabolism Reviews (Impact Factor: 4.058).

Awards and Recognition

Marin Jukić has received several prestigious awards, including three poster awards at ECNP annual congresses (2013, 2014, and 2016) and the IBRO InEurope short-stay grant, awarded to the top 20 young neuroscientists in Europe annually.[1]
