[edit]

Replace contents of the page with:

'''A page with this title has previously been moved or deleted.'''

If you are creating a new page with different content, please continue. If you are recreating a page similar to the previously deleted page, or are unsure, please first contact the user(s) who performed the action(s) listed below.

The message is showing up for red-link pages vacated using suppressredirect (like Draft:Move/Ring extension), which can now be done by extendedmovers. Should be uncontroversial to clarify with some kind of update like this. Thanks! — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 07:56, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done I think there is still room for improvement, but it seems to be going in the right direction. — xaosflux Talk 11:48, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is the message that's displayed on deleted pages, right? Could you please add a link to Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion to it?

Afaik most people here don't know that it's possible to undelete articles or get the content of them mailed to you. This is important information and even if people know that it's possible linking the specific place for it there is useful.

For example, this could be appended:

If you wish to restore the deleted page, please go here.

Wording

[edit]

I have recently properly re-read this message for the first time after a semi-hiatus and I am aghast. It is vague, and there is much room for misinterpretation by users unfamiliar with Wikipedia. I would therefore request that the second paragraph be replaced with the following:

If you are creating a new page with different content, please continue. If you are recreating a page similar to the previously deleted page, or are unsure, please first read the deletion log, and if necessary leave a new message at the bottom of the talk page of the user(s) who performed the action(s) listed below quoting the following: [[$1]]

Done - there was no $1 in the previous version. Please let me know where I can see this message in use, so I can test it if works correctly. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:09, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
MSGJ: Draft:Emerging_Global_Model_(EGM)_University was where I saw it, and it isn't displaying properly. $1 should be the article it appears on. Perhaps {{PAGENAME}} would work?--Launchballer 22:18, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Here we go. Please replace the second paragraph with

If you are creating a new page with different content, please continue. If you are recreating a page similar to the previously deleted page, or are unsure, please first read the deletion log, and if necessary leave a new message at the bottom of the talk page of the user(s) who performed the action(s) listed below quoting the following: [[MediaWiki talk:Recreate-moveddeleted-warn]].

Why the nowiki? I think perhaps this request needs further discussion — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:29, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I want the square brackets to appear on the interface so even the thickest, most inexperienced editor could copy it and the deleting admin still know what (s)he meant.--Launchballer 17:08, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not done for now: Perhaps you could open a thread at a village pump to discuss this as others may have other ideas on how to improve the wording. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:05, 21 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
