New York heavy metal scene

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New York heavy metal scene thrived during the 1990s. Notable acts in the scene include Unsane, Life of Agony and Type-O Negative.

Ken McIntyre of Metal Hammer wrote, "in the mid-90s, New York was a hotbed of freaks and weirdos".[1] He also remarked on Unsane,

Chris's gang created punishing noise-rock, real howls-from-the- gutter shit that echoed the paranoia and angst of living in an overcrowded, underfunded city ruled by street crime.[2]

Death metal

[edit]

The state of New York is also home to several highly influential death metal bands, including Suffocation,[3] Immolation,[4] Cannibal Corpse,[5] Incantation,[6] Malevolent Creation[7] and Mortician. [8]
