Nomad (eSIM)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nomad is a digital telecommunications product that uses eSIM (embedded SIM) technology.[1] It was launched in 2020 and is a business line of LotusFlare Inc., a telecommunications-software development company.[2]

Implementation

[edit]

Instead of purchasing physical sim cards with an integrated circuit, the company lets users scan a QR code to configure their device through the eUICC chip permanently attached to a device.[3] When an eSIM carrier profile is installed on an eUICC (embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card), it functions similarly to a physical SIM card. It includes a unique ICCID (Integrated Circuit Card Identifier) and a network authentication key generated by the carrier.[3]

Background

[edit]

Nomad introduced its mobile app in 2021 to allow direct purchases and covers 170 countries and offers prepaid data packages through local mobile network operators and mainly targets private and business travelers.[4][1]
