Pacio is an unincorporated community in Delta County, Texas, United States.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 15 in 2000.

History

The area in what is known as Pacio today was first settled in 1890. The community also goes by the names Lone Elm, Cuba, and Mote's Mill. A post office was established at Pacio in 1892 and remained in operation until 1905. James Porter Mote served as postmaster, although he misspelled the word patio when applying for the post office. There was a church, two businesses, and several scattered houses in Pacio in 1936, which was reduced to just the church and a few homes in 1964. There were two businesses in Pacio in 1984. The population was recorded as 15 in 1990 and 2000.[2]

Geography

Pacio is located on Farm to Market Road 198 just south of the Old River Channel and north of Lake Creek, 3 mi (4.8 km) north of Charleston in northwestern Delta County.[2]

Education

The Lone Elm school opened in 1890, then changed its name to Pacio in 1926. It was still operational in 1936. It joined the East Delta School District in 1943. Since 1970, Pacio has been served by the Cooper Independent School District.[2]
