Persija Jakarta–Persiraja Banda Aceh rivalry, also known as Jakarta–Banda Aceh rivalry, is a football rivalry in a match that brings together the teams Persija based in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia with Persiraja based in Banda Aceh, a city on the western tip of Sumatra, which for a long time also had disputes with the Indonesian central government in Jakarta.[1]
History
[edit]The two have competed several times, and both teams are fully capable of beating each other. Until finally after approximately 20 years of this rivalry not being able to be met,[2] in the 2019 Liga 2 season Persiraja was finally promoted for 2020 Liga 1 season and this rivalry took place again.[3] But unfortunately, that season the league had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic that hit.[4] In the 2021–22 Liga 1 season, precisely in the match that took place on 30 January 2022 at Ngurah Rai Stadium, Persija was surprisingly defeated by Persiraja with a score of 0–1.[5]
In that season too, Persiraja was relegated back to Liga 2 with the status as the bottom team and this match was postponed again.[6][7]
