Pirro Vengu (born 24 April 1986 in Elbasan) is an Albanian politician serving as Minister of Defense of Albania since July 2024. He is a NATO minister of defense.

Education

He studied Human Sciences at Lycée Henri-IV, Paris graduating in 2008. He earned two bachelor's degrees in History and Philosophy from Université Paris Nanterre, Paris, France and a master's degree in Political History at the same university in 2010. Vengu studied for a master's degree in International Relations at Institut National des Langues et Civilizations Orientales, Paris, graduating in 2011.[1][2]

Career

Vengu started his career as a Programme Assistant at the European Council on Foreign Relations, Paris in 2009 and served as Research Programme Coordinator from 2010 to 2013. He served as the Head of Cabinet in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Albania from 2013 to 2017 when he was appointed Director of Anti-corruption in the Prime Minister's Office and served in the position until 2019.[3] He was appointed Director General of the Durrës Port Authority in 2019 and served until July 2024 when Prime Minister Edi Rama appointed him as Minister of Defense of Albania serving concurrently as NATO minister of defense.[4][5]
