Hugh Grosvenor, 3rd Marquess of Westminster, by Carlo Pellegrini, "Ape" (1870)

This caricature of Hugh Grosvenor, 3rd Marquess of Westminster, by "Ape" appeared in Vanity Fair in 1870 with the caption, "The richest man in England". He spent freely in Cheshire, building a new Eaton Hall at a cost of £803,000 (now £60 million) and commissioning around 400 buildings on the estate, in the nearby village of Eccleston and in Chester.
