  • 1850 – The first train operates on the Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, a predecessor of the Milwaukee Road.[1]
  • 1918 – The Canadian government takes over control of the Canadian Northern Railway, appoints a new board of directors and places the management of the Canadian Government Railways under the new board's control.[2]
  • 1920 – Work begins on the State Railway of Thailand to convert all 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+12 in) track to metre gauge.[3]
  • 1961Union Pacific 844 (pictured) makes its first excursion run following retirement from regular revenue service on the Union Pacific Railroad.[1]
