Clacton by-election[edit]

I undid the removal of a story about the Clacton by-election. In my view, the triumph of the UKIP candidate has significant importance not only for the UK but for Europe as a whole. Capitalistroadster (talk) 02:57, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Are we going to start listing the results of all legislative by-elections at the national level for every major power? Why are you pushing to include this one race in particular? Farolif (talk) 03:08, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest we wait to see if this attracts news coverage from outside the UK. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:54, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It has received coverage from international sources, but Farolif seems to be determined it shouldn't go in. I restored it with articles from the Washington Post and New Zealand Herald, but Farolif then changed tack and decided it couldn't go in because these were "Colonial Realms" reporting events from the mother country. By-elections from the UK and other countries have been included here for as long as I can remember. I've seen US special elections mentioned, and by-elections in New Zealand and Ireland, for example. Farolif seems to be the only one objecting to the inclusion of this information, largely because he/she simply doesn't like it as I can see, so I don't know what he/she is playing at. The political events of 9/10 October have far-reaching consequences for the UK and its main parties, but as I can't restore this again because I'll use up my three reverts, and Farolif would undoubtedly remove it again, I'll open a discussion on the main Current events page instead. @Capitalistroadster, Farolif, John of Reading, and This is Paul: The Current Events guides are essay is here. It is not a community reviewed guide or policy, and it seems to be the only page about the matter on the site. What you need is a community reviewed guide, and the RFC should be titled something like, there are no policies for the Current Events portal. ~ R.T.G 11:42, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@RTG: That seems like a very sensible suggestion, I'll look into it. Looks like a discussion on whether or not to add this at the main talk page would also be useful in order to put this particular matter to bed. This is Paul (talk) 14:24, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Individual case discussion now open. This is Paul (talk) 15:58, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
