Taxonomy: For all marine species, Project Gastropods uses the taxonomy in the online database WoRMS. When starting a new article, do not use sources of taxonomic information that predate the 2017 revision for all gastropod groups ("Revised Classification, Nomenclator and Typification of Gastropod and Monoplacophoran Families" by Philippe Bouchet & Jean-Pierre Rocroi, Bernhard Hausdorf, Andrzej Kaim, Yasunori Kano, Alexander Nützel, Pavel Parkhaev, Michael Schrödl and Ellen E. Strong in Malacologia, 2017, 61(1–2): 1–526.) (can be dowloaded at Researchgate.net), substituting the previous classification of 2005 Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). If you need help with any aspect of an article, please leave a note at the Project talk page.

Maintaining this Portal[edit]

I have currently taken over the care and nourishment of this Portal, because the person who created it and did the first expansion of it, User:Snek01, left Wikipedia in mid-October of 2010. However, I am actively looking for another Project member who might like to assume responsibility for this Portal, so let me know if you are interested and I can explain things to you as necessary. Over at Wikisource in February, we are working on reproducing Philip Henry Gosse's 1854 work s:Natural History, Mollusca (text and images) if anyone is interested then please pop over to s:Wikisource:Proofread of the Month. Even if you are not, then I hope that the images are of help to someone … Media related to Natural History - Mollusca at Wikimedia Commons … — billinghurst sDrewth 03:41, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We need help from a Gastropologist and/or Malacologist at Mattheus Marinus Schepman. New aricle. Should be worth a WP:DYK easily, if we can get this up to 1500 characters. I found 40 "See also's" by ptyping ""Schepman" intol wikipedia, and that was just the first 40. Just a beginning. Please take a look and help out. 7&6=thirteen () 15:51, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notice from the Portals WikiProject[edit]

WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.

As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

From your friendly neighborhood Portals WikiProject. Hope to see you there. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   07:31, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
