Challenging Assumptions Regarding Political Will[edit]

I do not fully agree with the statement, "Political science is the field devoted to studying political behavior and examining the acquisition and application of power, or the ability to impose one's will on another." The "power" that is suggested is one of political power, as opposed to other forms of power that may motivate people.

Further, political science is often more devoted to achieving a goal by creating a willing constituency, rather than one of tolerated imposed will; this duality of imposed will versus willingness is the basis for the exploits of Machiavellianism.

Therefore, I suggest a rewrite of this sentence that reads something akin to, "Political science is the field devoted to studying political behavior and examining political power."--Caremerger (talk) 13:21, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
