Help With Voting

Hello Everybody, I need to reqeust help from the Wiki School Portal Community to help vote to save some school pages from deletion by wiki admins that are not familar with this project. please click the link below and vote! Thanks for your help!

Featured content

I will aim to update the featured content of the portal each week, but finding info for the Did You Know and as-of-yet uncreated In The News section may be more difficult. Portal:Education needs attention

Portal:Education needs some significant cleanup. Perhaps someone involved in this portal could lead an effort to improve what could be considered the parent portal of this one. An ongoing commitment to maintenance would be nice but is certainly not required. The current version is so bad (and has been that way since May) that if I cannot find someone to take it on, I will submit it for deletion. 66.167.136.148 02:47, 11 October 2005 (UTC).

Ownership?

Worthwhile changes were made today by myself and others, however User:Harro5 removed them. Does he claim to have ownership over this portal? To me that's what it seems like.

All I choose to do was update the 'Features Picture,' add another article to the showcase, and add a new very warranted section 'Notable Principals' (other contributors to this page agreed with all my changes).

Harro5 please stop claiming ownership. It's a community site, and this portal needs community assistance. It is not yours.

• All sections have recently been updated (as of last weekend). The notable principals section is designed to dispute a current AFD on Simon Gipson, and is not a useful section. Who are the "other contributors"? I manage this portal, and ask for suggestions on the talk pages as to what should be added next. Harro5 22:23, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
  • If all content was updated as of last weekend then perhaps you won't have a problem with us submitting the school photo (as done previously), for the featured photo in a couple of days (say 2-3). I am sure that the majority of members to this portal will agree. Secondly, as per Wikipedia policy, anyone who wishes to maintain this portal can. Thus, you do not have editorial control, and attempting to exercise this via suggestions on talk pages is insulting to other users. I, and I speak for everyone involved I think, will be willing to indulge you for a number of days at which time we will be adding the whole school photo. Also on a side note, Geelong Grammar and St Michael's are good articles to include in this section of the portal, and will be added again (you must have reverted that section by accident). Agree for the time being btw in regards to the 'Notable Principals' section, as ong as the AFD is on that article it should not be put here. New Showcase Article

I've touched up the PEA article a bit, and though there are still some conclusions to be reached (specifically about the Jargon section), I think its been brought back up to showcase article standards. In my opinion any advertisement like language is gone, as is what im able to find of the NPOV stuff.

Showcase Article of the Month

I'm not changing it myself because I'm not sure about customs or standards this Portal usually holds itself to, but shouldn't the bolded Plano Senior High School be linked on the Showcase article of the month template? As far as I can tell, there's no way to directly link there - save for going down to boxes to the collection of all Showcase articles. -Rebelguys2 21:36, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

I've also been bold and changed the showcase article of the month as the other one had been there for some time. I was going to change the list of showcase articles but I see that approval is currently required by Harro5. We already have a list of school articles which have been identified as B class or above by the assessment team at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Assessment. Some of the articles currently listed on the portal page are not yet even at B class. Unless anyone objects I shall change the list so that it includes only those schools which are featured articles or good articles. It might be an idea too to have a rotating selection of B class articles. Dahliarose 11:56, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Featured School nomination

Infobox Aust school

I don't know why, but " Infobox Aust school " has a mispelled parameter -- the parameter is for "enrolment" instead of "enrollment"

Listing something under "enrollment" gets an error message. Example, see Warrandyte High School or edit at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Warrandyte_High_School&action=edit

I just set up random selection sub pages for Did you know using {{Random portal component}}. Instructions to work it are on the sub page, Portal:Schools/Did you know. A very impressive portal. No major issues that I can find. Minor pnes below.

• The lead paragraph needs an expansion. Maybe twice as long as it currently is.

• Has been slightly expanded.

• Bring your selected picture and DYK random components up to at least 10.

I would say that this portal is upto or atleast very close to featured status.

Selected picture up for deletion

Just so those working on this portal know, File:ShenandoahAcademy.jpg, which is listed at Portal:Schools/Selected picture/25, is up for deletion on Commons for lack of permission. This picture should not appear on a high profile page such as a portal with copyright issues outstanding, fortunately this image appears to be currently excluded from the random selection. I am not sure why "(c)" was added under the image given that copyrighted images are blanket prohibited from the portal space and Wikimedia Commons, even under fair use.
