RIDE is a ridesharing service in Ethiopia founded by Samrawit Fikru, founder of Hybrid Designs PLC. In July 2017, RIDE relaunched as a mobile app. Since 2016, RIDE service authorized 42,000 taxi drivers, charging with 12% commission.[1]
History
[edit]RIDE ridesharing and SMS based service was conceptualized by Hybrid Designs PLC founder Samrawit Fikru in December 2014.[2] In July 2017, it was relaunched as mobile app. In 2016, Zayride, an online booking service was launched by Habtamu Tadesse.[3][4] Since 2016, the service had 42,000 authorized taxi drivers, while other ridesharing company named Feres is major competitor of RIDE.[1] RIDE charges 12% commission from driver while Feres charges only 8% commission, pay to the company.[1]
