Rachele Fruit is an American activist who is the nominee of the Socialist Workers Party for President of the United States in the 2024 Presidential election.
Early life and career[edit]
Fruit was born on October 4, 1949, in Philadelphia.[1] Her family was Secular Jewish and she attended Hebrew School.[2] Fruit has worked a series of jobs throughout her life, including as a meatpacker,[1] trade unionist,[3] as a ramp worker for Eastern Airlines,[2] and as a Walmart employee.[4] During the 1980s she resided in Baltimore before moving to Atlanta and then Miami.[2]
Activism and political candidacy[edit]
Fruit began involving herself in politics during the 1970s, participating in protests against the Vietnam War.[2]
Elections contested[edit]
Ourcampaigns lists Fruit as having run in 9 elections.[1] Fruit herself has claimed to run for "numerous offices" since the 1970s.[2]
2018 Georgia Gubernatorial election[edit]
The Atlanta Branch of the Socialist Workers Party nominated Fruit in the Spring of 2018 to run for Governor of Georgia.[4] She initially ran as a write-in candidate to oppose Democratic nominee Stacy Abrams but withdrew from the election.[1][4] She campaigned on giving ex-prisoners the right to vote.[5]
2024 Presidential election[edit]
The national Socialist Worker's Party nominated Fruit alongside her vice-presidential candidate Dennis Richter of Minnesota fruit. The campaign expressed a desire to appear on the ballot in a total of six states: Minnesota, Louisiana, New Jersey, Washington, Vermont and Tennessee and claims to have the required amount of signatures needed.[6] Fruit and Richter have expressed strong support for Israel in the Israel-Hamas War and have branded themselves as working-class candidates.[2][6]
Other elections[edit]
Fruit had her best showing ever in the 2013 Atlanta City Council President election. She garnered 8,598 votes and finished in second with 19.71% of the vote against Ceasar Mitchell Jr.[1]

Fruit is Jewish and resides in Miami, Florida.[2]
