Politics

[edit]

Naji is an organiser in the Justice for Palestine Magan-djin,[5] and has spoken and organised pro-Palestine rallies across the North Coast including the Brisbane Palm Sunday Rally for Peace and Refugees,[1] Byron Bay Ceasefire Now and BDS Conference[8] and Coffs Harbour Gather for Gaza.[9]

Naji advocacy for Palestine has also seen them prominently cycle 195 km for Palestine in 2019 and 2023 as part of The Ride for Palestine.[10]

Naji was a Annerley Labor member from 2018 - 2024 [7][11], and supported the Graham Perrett campaign in 2019[7]. Naji officially resigned from the Labor party in 2023, after being increasingly disenfranchised by the party's incrementalism and lack of advocacy for Palestine[12].

Naji was announced as the Greens candidate for the federal division of Moreton at the upcoming Australian federal election in August 2024.[5] The federal division of Moreton is currently held by Labor MP Graham Perrett and only held the seat on a margin of 9 per cent.[1]. After Naji was announced, Graham announced that they would be retiring at the next election[6].

The electorate of Moreton is in Queensland’s south-east and has been described as “one of the most winnable seats” for the Greens ahead of the 2025 federal election[3][6], and the Greens will target the south Brisbane areas such as Rocklea, Sunnybank and Graceline.[13]
