Gameplay

[edit]

Resident Evil Re:Verse is a third-person multiplayer shooter featuring a variety of characters from across the Resident Evil franchise. Two-to-six players compete in five-minute deathmatch battles, using weapons and items found through the map, with the player scoring the most points (RP) at the end of the match winning. Each human character has their own set of skills and weapon loadout.

Humans that are taken down transform into powerful bioweapons that can change the tide of battle, with players able to upgrade their bioweapon transformation by obtaining virus capsules. Once the bioweapon is killed, the player will respawn as a human.

Re:Verse incentivizes the player achieving multiple consecutive kills in a row (kill streaks) by rewarding them with more points, with bonus points being given by successfully killing opponents in the top three position on the scoreboard. If a player is killed during a kill streak, they can regain their streak by killing the revenge target (indicated by a skull icon above the killer's character).

After completing a match, the players with the top three highest scores will be displayed on the results screen. Players in the top three ranking will also be awarded points towards their MMR, increasing their rank. Match statistics such as kills, time spent playing as a specific character, and more are tracked via RESIDENT EVIL.NET when an account is connected.

Points earned from matches can be used to purchase RE Coins, which can then be used to purchase additional human and bioweapon upgrades. Players are also tasked with completing challenges listed in the BattlePass menu to earn cosmetic rewards such as character skins, weapon charms, and victory poses.

The game offers two methods of matchmaking, Standard and Passcode. Standard automatically fills a match with players, while Passcode is a private lobby system with access being given with a specific passcode displayed in the room menu. Private matches started from the Passcode menu do not reward the player with RP.

Resident Evil Re:Verse features two classes of playable characters: Humans (also called "survivors" in promotional materials) and bioweapons. These characters are based on their appearances in games utilizing the RE Engine (Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and Resident Evil Village). Several characters also have unlockable skins (via the Battle Pass/Premium Pass or downloadable content) referencing pre-RE Engine titles such as Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps, and Resident Evil 6.
