San Antonio parade shooting

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On April 27, 1979, Ira Attebury, 64, parked his recreational vehicle filled with ammunition and an arsenal of weapons at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Grayson Street. He then rained gunfire on an unsuspecting Fiesta crowd that was awaiting the start of the Battle of Flowers parade in San Antonio, Texas. Two women were killed, and more than 50 people were injured. Among the dozens injured were six police officers, and then Ira Attebury shot himself.[1][2]

Perpetrator[edit]

Ira Attebury (died April 27, 1979). After service in the US Coast Guard during World War II, he had been an independent trucker. He told trailer park managers here that he was receiving disability pension payments.[3]

It appears that Attebury had lived in San Antonio for more than a year, but little has been learned about the period before April 1978, when he appeared at a local trailer park.[3]
