Shakespopi (stylized in all caps) is the second studio album by Nigerian singer Shallipopi. It was released through Plutomania Records and Dvpper Music on April 11, 2024.[1] It serves as the follow-up to his previous album, Presido La Pluto (2023).

Background and release[edit]

Five months after the release of his debut studio album Presido La Pluto in November 2023,[2] Shallipopi announced that his next project would be his forthcoming studio album called Shakespopi.[3] On April 10 2024, Shallipopi posted a video promoting the album in an Instagram post.[4][5] The album was finally released on April 11, 2024.[6][7]

Shakespopi received mixed reviews from Pulse Nigeria. According to Adeayo Adebiyo, "Shakespopi features some of his weakest hooks and a slew of songs that are so unsatisfyingly short; his rhymes are comically juvenile, usage of street languages." [8]

Commercial performance[edit]

Shakespopi debuted at number one on the Nigeria Apple Music chart in its first week. It became his highest-charting album at the time.[10] The album also outsold other notable releases that week like Portable's Tony Montana, which featured rapper Skepta.[11] The first song on the album titled "ASAP", debuted at number one on Nigeria Apple Music Top 100.[12]
