Local government service[edit]

Davies held numerous local government roles prior to his election to Parliament. He was Leader of Labour in Local Government from 2022 to 2023 and attended the Shadow Cabinet in that role. He became the youngest ever Chair of the Local Government Association in 2023 and became the first ever chair to be elected to the Commons in 2024. He was elected first to Telford and Wrekin Council in 2011, masterminding the campaign to switch the council from Conservative to Labour. On election he was immediately appointed to the cabinet leading the transformation of the council. In 2016, he became the youngest council leader in the country, aged 30 and led Telford and Wrekin Council until July 2024, becoming the council's longest-serving council leader. During the leadership of the then council, the council was recognised with multiple council of the year awards, its children services were rated outstanding twice by OFSTED and adult service recognised as exceptional. The Council Tax rate of the council was also the lowest in the whole of the Midlands and the second lowest in England for its council type.
