Student Wow Deals is a student aid Company founded in 2014 in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia by Daniel Proctor & Co-Founder David Proctor.[1]

The company offers students exclusive discounts and deals at over 500 brands across various categories, including health and fitness, cafes and dining, gyms, and entertainment.[2]

History

[edit]

Founder Daniel Proctor and David Proctor set up the company together in 2014. They incorporated an idea for a Student Discount Card that was inspired by a similar card system in Canada surrounding university students. Gradually they discussed their business model with other local businesses and offered partnerships with the discount card. Eventually some big brand names such as Boost, Dominos and Subway agreed to participate, and that's how the business took off.

The business was launched at O-Week at the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2014 and a lot of people liked the idea. They started getting partnerships with 91.1 Hot FM and the Innovation Centre, place where their offices are based.[2]

Student Wow Deals now provides students from University, secondary, tertiary education and apprenticeships/traineeships discounts, job opportunities, accommodation search career tips and student travel tours. The membership began with a $15 subscription cost as the initial business model. In 2018 the model was changed making it completely free. The company now relies on advertising and sponsorship for its revenue.[3]

International launch

[edit]

In 2019, Student Wow Deals announced that it would be launching its services in the United Kingdom and the United States starting in early 2020. The website currently serves students from over 56 countries and continues to expand.

Collaborations with Schools

[edit]

Student Wow Deals launched its official school program in 2017. The Student Wow Deals team travels to schools across Australia, educating students on the impact of social media use and providing career tips. In 2018, as a gesture of gratitude to educators, Student Wow Deals introduced a limited-time Teach membership for teachers across Australia.[3]
