Objection to proposed deletion[edit]

A number of articles relating to early periods in North American History have been proposed for deletion because "Archaeology of the Americas gives accepted phases for North American history; this segment appears to be arbitrary."

I disagree with this, this article (and its siblings) are obviously intended to form a timeline that could be overlaid over other regions of the world without reference to geographically-specific "phases." Furthermore, the cited article describes the five phases as "simplistic" and notes that they have been replaced with "more local classifications." Crypticfirefly 05:13, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article is very badly written, using the first hand hand plural and completely unsourced. Concur the five phase approach does presume that everywhere in North America went through the same stages at the same time, which clearly is a simplification. Given these article are only stubs, in my honest opinion, developing the geographically-specific phase articles would be preferable. However, this was only a proposed deletion, accordingly, thanks for giving an explanation. Addhoc 18:07, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
