Merge proposal

[edit]

This article (titled "15th Arkansas Infantry Regiment (Josey's)")and this one (15th (Josey's) Arkansas Volunteer Infantry) are identical; is there any reason why we have two of them? It would make more sense all round just to have one; does anyone have a strong opinion which should it be?
Going by the most common format in the category list, we should use the title here, and blank the other title down to a redirect; does anybody think otherwise? Xyl 54 (talk) 14:21, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I concur, I did not realize there were two these. It is the same unit in both artilces and they should be merged. Aleutian06 (talk) 20:23, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll give it a few days, and if there are no other responses I'll sort it out.
Also, does anyone know what the difference is between this unit (these pages) and 15th Arkansas Infantry? It appears, from the content and the external link there, to be the same unit again.
OTOH the other regiment mentioned here designated 15th Arkansas Infantry, (Gee’s) doesn’t have an article at all . Xyl 54 (talk) 23:59, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The first two are the same article the last one, this one 15th Arkansas Infantry is just a mess. There were actually three units that bore the name 15th Arkansas. The other two units are, 15th Arkansas Infantry Regiment (Johnson's) which is also known as the Gee/Johnson regiment and the 15th Arkansas Infantry Regiment (Northwest). The writer of the last article has attempted to combine all three, which is incorrect. I suggest that it just needs to be deleted. To keep consistent with the naming conventions utilized on the List of Arkansas Civil War Confederate units we need to keep 15th Arkansas Infantry Regiment (Josey's). This article is also the one with the most accurate referencing. Aleutian06 (talk) 00:13, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that makes things a bit clearer. I've proposed the 15th Arkansas Infantry article be re-written as a disambiguation page, there. Xyl 54 (talk) 23:55, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK, done. I've merged the other 15th (Josey's) article to here. I've changed the heading here; it said "Arkansas Volunteer Infantry", but wasn't that the designation used by Union regiments? I've also re-jigged the introduction; it's probably more important to have an overview of the regiment in the introduction than the detail of the eccentric numbering these regiments had. I've done the same with the other 15th Regt. pages also. I trust that's OK too. Xyl 54 (talk) 23:44, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Looks Great! Thanks for the great job sorting this out! Aleutian06 (talk) 06:23, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of 15th Arkansas Infantry Regiment (Josey's)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "history-sites":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 14:18, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
