Name?

[edit]

The acronym, "Cl*", of this anonymous star cluster was picked from the Simbad list for Object classification in SIMBAD, for cataloged star clusters.

I used the J position designator for J2000 as I thought it would be 2000, but now I find the default is B, for B1950 according to IAU recommendations here [1]. The cluster is only 0.4 pc in diameter, corresponding to ~5 arc sec at its distance of 15000 pc. Presumably the correct position for the cluster must agree with the positions of SGR 1806-20 and LBV 1806-20 to about 25", but since I do not know what is the best choice, I will stick with just 1806-20 and change the J to B as IAU recommends. (I have checked the SGR & LBV positions in SIMBAD to verify that 1806-20 is B, not J.) Thus I will do a move to Cl* B1806-20. Wwheaton (talk) 01:16, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Position

[edit]

I have changed the name to just Cl* 1806-20, to agree with position designator for SGR, as blank flag is recognized as "B". For the infobox position, I have the position for SGR, and plotted the objects in a 30" radius circle. This clearly shows a cluster at J18083933-2024400, 0.52" from SGR & 13.8" from LBV, which I take as the position, pending further information. Note that there is a compact core (d~2") containing the SGR, with a more extended halo (d~30") including the LBV. Wwheaton (talk) 20:06, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
