First ever by-election

[edit]

Good on you for starting this article. Do you have a source for the claim that it was the first ever by-election? Nelson and Waimea also had by-elections that year, and they were both in June. But they might not have been contested - I don't know. Either way, they were still by-elections, and if they indeed weren't contested, then the text here should read that it was the "first ever by-election in New Zealand political history that was contested" or some such. What do you think? Schwede66 18:27, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing

[edit]

@Hugo999: With this edit, you updated the page numbers for the Scholefield (1950) references. I rather doubted that those page numbers were all wrong and upon checking, I see that you have instead used the page numbers for the subsequent edition of the book edited by Wilson (1984). That's not ok. If you feel that the newer version needs to be used for referencing, you must do a proper job and also update the book reference itself. I shall fix it up.
