Apparent computational inconsistency[edit]

As I detailed in the talk page for the 1926 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, in the course of working with the data from my source material and writing the coding for the wikitables on various articles I've expanded lately (for the 1907, 1913, 1922, 1926, 1930, 1934, and 1938 World Championships), I have found numerous mostly minor and mostly inconsequential computational inconsistencies in the source data. (After all, back in the day before automatic computation, with any data set large enough, there is bound to be at least a little human error.) And as I have said before, I didn't find these errors so much as Excel found them. In the case of 1922, what I really wanted to do, as I have in other articles, is create a unified wikitable for both the team and individual results (because back then, they were one and the same - they were not actual, separate competitions). However, in the process of trying to do so for these 1922 Worlds, I discovered that there were discrepancies between the stated team results and the stated individual results. Several days ago, when I was doing this, I think I somehow came to the mentally erroneous conclusion that there were major discrepancies that disallowed me to come up with a unified table for the two that would have any integrity upon which to rest. Since I must have rested on that erroneous conclusion, I created separate tables for each. However, upon another review of this, I came to the consistent finding that there was really only one computational inconsistency - for 3rd-place France. The added total (sum of the stated parts) for the French team should have been 654.75, whereas the stated total was 636, which does match the sum total of all of the stated totals for the individuals (plus behavioral points) from the French team. Which should be the correct total, of course I do not know, but the inconsistency stands. QuakerIlK (talk) 18:18, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
