@Jweiss11: I notice that you moved this article. I selected the "Bulldogs" name as that appeared from my search of contemporary sources to be the common name at the time. Can you explain your basis for the move? Cbl62 (talk) 06:51, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

My searches show usage of both "Bulldogs" and "Green Wave". I did not do a detailed survey but Bulldogs seemed more common. That also appears to be our naming convention as per Category:Wilberforce Bulldogs football, Category:Wilberforce Bulldogs football coaches, Category:Wilberforce Bulldogs football players. Cbl62, in researching and editing Gaston F. Lewis the other day, "Green Wave" appeared to be the most common name for team prior to 1952. However, I do see that "Bulldogs" was also used before that. I was going to send you a note about Wilberforce / Central State, as the history is little complicated. Central State University emerged from a department within Wilberforce University in 1947 to become its own independent school, Wilberforce State. In 1947 the two schools each had their own football team. Gaston Lewis had coached the Wilbeforce team since 1934. He began coaching the Wilberforce State team in 1947, while Dwight H. Fisher coached the private Wilberforce team; see https://www.newspapers.com/clip/39466279/the_tribune/. I believe the Wilberforce team was discontinued following the 1947 or shortly thereafter.
