Copyright violation
[edit]A large part of this page is copied, or paraphrased unacceptably closely, from this page, which is based on the discredited book From Time Immemorial. The unreliable source allows the offending text to be deleted, but the copyvio requires it to be deleted. I will now delete all sentences which the too close to the stated source. Unfortunately there isn't going to be much left. Zerotalk 12:51, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
TAG: As well as not being based on any identified reliable sources, the text is full of language like "the terror unleashed" and "unrestrained bloody violence". It isn't clear why this article should exist at all, since there is room for the complete story in History of the Jews in Aden. Zerotalk 13:03, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I've taken out that offending language. Apart from that, I'm not seeing any NPOV issues here. As I indicated in the AfD, I'm surprised by the nomination of this article, which concerns an event whose notability I think is pretty much indisputable. This topic is in need of attention from an expert on the subject. The section or sections that need attention may be noted in a message below. |
The entire article urgently requires expansion and sourcing. Coretheapple (talk) 16:48, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
I've added some bare-bones text from contemporary news accounts, but it needs expansion utilizing historical texts, perhaps copied from History of the Jews in Aden per WP:CWW. I'm not going to do any major copying or expansion because I'm not really conversant with the subject area, and also pending resolution of the AfD, as is customary. Coretheapple (talk) 17:41, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- If the AFD fails (which seems likely), I will copy the material from History of the Jews in Aden and expand it a bit. Since I wrote that version, I don't need to call on WP:CWW. Unfortunately, contemporary newspaper accounts tended to be sensationalized as usual, so we should rely mostly on the work of historians. The book of Parfitt has the most detailed and documented account I could find in a long search (and I have very good access to sources), and I also have the report by Trusted. Neither of these are on the web, as far as I know. I'll add a map too, but first I'll wait for AFD to finish. Zerotalk 03:15, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- I will add some info from Reuben Ahroni's comprehensive review on Adenese Jewish community.GreyShark (dibra) 08:27, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- Zero, you're definitely right about historical accounts. Glad this is being resolved constructively. Coretheapple (talk) 15:18, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
Expanding the article with History_of_the_Jews_in_Aden#Anti-Jewish_riots_in_Aden
[edit]@Zero0000: I started merging the information from the section you wrote, but I figured out, since you (probably) have access to the listed sources, you should merge it with the existing information. I'll add my information afterwards.--Bolter21 (talk to me) 16:33, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
@Bolter21: No problem; I'll do it on the weekend. Zerotalk 21:28, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

title
[edit]"Aden riots" is much more common than "Aden pogrom". In popular sources (as per Google counts) it is 30 times more common, and in scholarly writing "pogrom" is almost nonexistent. For example, Parfitt uses "pogrom" only in quotation and "riots" all over the place. The fact that "pogrom" fails neutrality requirements is also obvious. Zerotalk 00:46, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
