Thatcher and Thorpe[edit]

As it is mentioned in the main text that this was the election where Margaret Thatcher and Jeremy Thorpe first won seats in Parliament, does it need to also be in the introduction as it currently is? Dunarc (talk) 18:19, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

I notice the map shows Caithness and Sutherland as a Conservative seat when it was won by David Robertson, an Independent Conservative. YttriumShrew 5:07, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

Surprise result[edit]

Just listened to an interesting Gresham College podcast by Vernon Bogdanor, in which he states that it was far from obvious at the time that Macmillan would win, let alone that he would win a landslide. Article could probably do with some sharpening up.

This is not an uncommon phenomenon in elections. Most commentators assumed Wilson would win in 1970, ditto Heath in Feb 1974. In 1987 the size of Thatcher's majority was a surprise. Major's re-election in 1992 (with what seemed at first to be a decent majority) was a bit of a shock. 2015 was expected to be a hung Parliament, but Cameron won. In 2017 May was expected to win a 1930s-style landslide at the start and even on polling day was still tipped to win a healthy majority, despite having fought an awful campaign. Few commentators expected Boris to win a large majority in Dec 2019. Etc etc etc. Paulturtle (talk) 23:12, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
