Eighth-finals

[edit]

This article is wrong. It's including the eighth-finals in the qualifying round. See http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/season=1964/matches/round=167/index.html

At very least it needs to be clarified. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.54.32.184 (talk) 17:11, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The eighth-finals were part of the qualifying, and so were the quarter-finals. The competition proper only consisted of the semi-finals, the 3rd place play-off, and the final. Or do you mean something else? --Theurgist (talk) 03:50, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
this source says that from Round of 16 was final tournament. Metufit (talk) 17:52, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Albania vs Greece fixture

[edit]

To the Albanian IP editor(s) insisting on listing 3–0 wins in both legs and a 6–0 win on aggregate for Albania: such an edit is original research, and original research isn't allowed on Wikipedia. First, the default scoreline for awarded wins was 2–0 at the time – cf. the Chile vs USSR 1974 World Cup qualifying match, which, per FIFA's website, was awarded as a 2–0 win for Chile. And second, while sources do say that Greece "withdrew", the matches were "cancelled" and "forfeited", and Albania had a "walkover", they say nothing of any awarded results, be they 3–0, 2–0 or anything else. UEFA.com and RSSSF.com make no mention of any results, and neither does any other source I have seen. If some source is found that claims that awarded wins were actually given to Albania, and if that source is at least comparable in authoritativeness to the aforementioned two, then we might consider mentioning this. So long as there is no such a source, the article shouldn't make unsubstantiated claims. --Theurgist (talk) 03:43, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ranking criteria?

[edit]

I saw Luxembourg starting from the 1st round, and teams as England, France, Italy, Spain, Yugoslavia, Hungary etc from the preliminaries. I remember that it was the strongest Luxembourg of its football history, but far from a comparison with the teams listed above (ex.: almost all in 1962 World Cup). What was the criterion to choose the teams starting from the preliminaries and the ones from the round of 16? Thank you for answer, is just a curiosity. --79.33.156.163 (talk) 12:02, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure but i think that drawing of lots decided, but i did not know why? Metufit (talk) 17:09, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Austria and Luxembourg advanced directly due to drawing of lots, and Soviet Union due to being defending champions. Metufit (talk) 17:11, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
